Start Your Journey In Worship

Christian worship is the gathering of God’s people — of all ages, places, and backgrounds — to encounter the living presence of the Triune God through prayer, song, Scripture, preaching, and the Sacraments.

The Heart of Worship

Our faith is rooted in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The words we use often come from ancient languages and traditions — they may sound old-fashioned, but they carry meaning and depth that connect us to the whole church through time.

Liturgy

From the Greek word for “work of the people.” In worship, it is first and foremost God’s work for us — but also our call to serve our neighbors in love.

Worship (Latria)

Adoration that belongs to God alone. More than respect or honor, worship is our response to God’s grace and love.

Sacrament

From the Latin “to make holy.” Lutherans recognize two Sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. In these, God uses ordinary things — water, bread, wine — to deliver His extraordinary grace.

Faith In Action

Liturgy in Everyday Life

When we feed the hungry, clothe the poor, or care for the hurting, we are living out the liturgy — the work of the people.

Adoration Beyond Sunday

We can worship God anywhere: in church, at home, outdoors, or in the stillness of Scripture study.

Communal Worship

When we gather together, liturgy, adoration, Scripture, and the Sacraments unite in the Divine Service — the heart of Christian community life.

Symbols In Worship

Worship is rich with meaning, and symbols help us see Christ at the center.

The Cross – A reminder of Christ’s love and sacrifice.
Candles – Christ, the Light of the World.
Colors – Green for growth, Red for the Spirit, Purple for royalty, Blue for hope, White/Gold for resurrection.
Vestments – Garments that symbolize baptism, service, and the abundance of God’s mercy.
Incense – A fragrant symbol of prayer and God’s presence.
Art – Always pointing us back to Christ and His work.

Our Pattern of Worship

Each Sunday, worship at Christ Lutheran includes:

Confession & Forgiveness – Honest repentance and God’s promise of grace.
Gathering Hymns & Kyrie – Singing and prayer for God’s mercy.
Scripture & Sermon – God’s Word proclaimed and applied.
Creed & Prayers – Affirming faith and lifting up the world’s needs.
Holy Communion – Christ’s true presence in bread and wine.
Sending Hymn & Blessing – Sent into the world with God’s peace.

“You are the Church, because the Church is not a building but the assembly of God’s people. Together we offer our worship and service to the Lord wherever we are. We welcome you to join us, ask questions, and share in this journey of faith.”

-Grace and Peace, Rev. Chuck Shingledecker
